Every year the big baseball championship is held at the Hashin Koshien Kyujyo/Stadium in Nishinomiya city (西宮市), Hyogo prefecture. This game is the National High School Baseball Championship, generally called Koshien (甲子園). It is held twice in a year, spring and summer. You may know Ichiro, Matsui, and Matsuzaka, who play in the major league in America. These famous baseball players aimed to come in the Koshien when they were teenagers. The championship is the gateway to success as a baseball player. Some of the good players are spotted after the games. Visitors can see high school baseball players who may be famous in the world in the future.

The National High School Baseball Championship is important not only for players but also citizens. The championship has history since 1915. Every summer, 49 schools which win the primary matches in each prefecture come to play in Koshien. All games are broadcasted by NHK, Japan Broadcasting Cooperation since 1954. People know mid-summer has come by watching the game because the game is usually held from early August for 10 days. It could be said that the Koshien is a summer tradition for Japanese. Some big fans of the championship see all games for 10 days at the stadium.

Many local people in the town, city, prefecture that high school is located, come to cheer players.

There are many Manga that focus on a high school baseball team aiming to come in the Koshien. The most famous one is TOUCH (タッチ) by Mitsuru Adachi that is serialised in Shukan Shonen sande, weekly Manga magazine, from 1981 to 1986.
